International Spokesperson for West Papua National Liberation Army
Name: Sebby Sambom
Date of Birth: 03/01/1975
Sebby Sambon is originally from Yalimo. He was aged 30 when he was arrested on 16 October 2008, whereby Mr Sambom took part in a peaceful demonstration to support the launch of the International Parliamentarians for West Papua (IPWP) in London. He was released at the end of the same year, and almost a year after his release, Mr Sambom was re-arrested in Jayapura while trying to board a plane to Jakarta for an onward flight to Hong Kong, to attend a training of the Asian Human Rights Commission. Since then, he has sought haven and been appointed as the international spokesperson for the Liberation Army. On 7 February 2023, the Liberation Army under the command of Egianus Kogoya, took a New Zealand pilot as hostage. This puts Mr Sebby’s role in the spotlight to respond to the international journalists. This also means he is exposed to military crackdown. Case in point, on 27 February 2023, the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) labeled Sebby to Interpol and they were expected to find and arrest Sebby Sambom.
