The Act, which led to Indonesia’s annexation of West Papua, has been widely criticized for not adhering to the New York Agreement’s Article 18, as only 1,025 individuals—625 Indonesian settlers and 400 native Papuans—participated in the vote, rather than the universal suffrage stipulated. 800,000s Natives Papuan not allowed to vote in that Shame Referendum but UN President General Assembly established Resolution 2504 for that fraud Referendum in November 1969 at UN Headquarter New York City.
During the meeting, Anari emphasized the need for the U.S. to support West Papua’s right to self-determination, highlighting the historical context and ongoing human rights concerns in the region. Congresswoman Kim expressed interest in the issue and committed to reviewing the proposed bill, acknowledging the importance of upholding democratic principles and human rights.
This meeting signifies a potential shift in international attention towards West Papua’s longstanding quest for independence and may influence future U.S. foreign policy regarding Indonesia and the Pacific region.
